Unicef Unholy Crusade Against Anime…
October 13th 2008 08:23 am
The picture above has meaning to this post. Well, a thing that I never saw coming. An organization that deals to helping people in third world countries had turned and targeted the anime industry. Here is something I want to know, why is it that every month or so, some organization or group is messing with the anime industry and saying that this should not be in it or how anime should be banned ?
This is something that I’m surprised with. I too donate some money to help people in need, but now I question what they do with some of the money. Unicef seems to want to ban swimsuits in anime. Also they want to ban loli characters in anime. That means they don’t want anime like Lucky Star or any anime that has a swimsuit episode which is about 90% or more of the anime that is out there. So they are basically banning all anime or remove all ecchie, or pantsu shots from all anime. They remove what sometimes make anime fun or exciting.
They compare anime ecchi-ness to child porn and saying that Japan, North America and Russia are to blame as well for these things. I have to say, anime is not porn. Sure there are some hentai in the world, but don’t compare it to anime. Anime isn’t child porn. In what ways is child porn like anime. There is little or young characters in anime but in what way do they show them having sex. Sure, they wear swimsuits for like 15 minutes on an episode and the rest of the series show them wearing regular clothes. In fact, they are saying that any show/ movie with am under age person should not were a swimsuit. In general, they say kids should not wear swimsuits. This is a stupid argument by Unicef.
Some people say it’s for our kids. Right, kids are not watching porn or hentai. They watch cartoons or anime made for children. Even anime made for children have kids wearing swimsuits in it. The earliest anime I watched that I remember that actually has a female teenager with a swimsuit was Pokemon. So they say kids should not watch Pokemon because it’s not appropriate for them. I know this, children loves Pokemon. If Unicef takes it away or ban it, look how many kids will be mad or angry at them. I think they mostly think about themselves and think their kids will be happy about it. Right, ask a kid that they are going to ban their favorite shows because of one or two episodes out of a hundred in the series and ask that kid how he or she feels. I bet it’ll be a negative reply. They should ask the kids before going out and doing things like this.
I bet Unicef is going to show some anime swimsuit episode only and with characters that are childish or have giant breast. They say these anime are inappropriate. One or two anime series do not represent the whole industry. If I get the chance to fight back in the argument and tell those people in Unicef that some anime are like that because the creator is like that, but the majority of the anime in the world aren’t. People who watch anime aren’t preverts or people who rape children. They just watch it because it’s good and better then shows that are shown on TV. People who watch anime is that of all ages. They should ask the people who watch anime instead of jumping to their own conclusions and saying it’s bad for us. Ask the millions of otakus or people who watch anime around the world before doing anything against anime. In reality, they say that otakus are dirty perverts and stuff similar to that. Anime is a culture not something that provokes child porn to be made. They are completely different.
What Unicef in my mind is doing is to get rid of the anime culture and restricted the freedom of speech. Anime made from people who writes novels or scripts. This saying they should ban freedom of speech, in which limits on movies and regular shows too. I also want to add that child abuse rates is low in Japan. In meaning that anime that people watch aren’t effect the population. Unicef should do their research before saying that anime is bad for people who watch it and is basically child porn. I say, it is not and you should compare it more.
*Take a breath*
Well, enough on my rant and poor argument about this. This is just something that I’m really tick off at. Anime is to be enjoyed not to be blamed for something that is completely different. Wanting to put a ban on some of my favorite shows (Lucky Star). I know they look loli but they are basically legal (18 at the end of the anime). I think they should watch the whole anime before judging one. To add one more note, some anime relates to everyday life, so girls wearing swimsuits in front of their childhood friends/ boyfriends is dubbed inappropriate. I say that’s stupid, I say saying that anime that relates to everyday life is inapproptiate.
Who else thinks that Unicef is doing to wrong thing and spend their time helping people, instead of arguing to ban anime?
I think they should just laze off and concentrate their efforts in helping people in third world countries instead of blaming the anime industry for what they think is inappropriate.
Well, I’m still taking votes on figures shoot. So people continue voting on the figure pick.

Honestly, if they banned pantsu shots, that doesn’t really bother me. However, banning swimsuits? What, does that mean kids aren’t allowed to hit the beach in real life? Retarded-ism right there.
*claps* First rant I read from u ever since I joined ur blog.
They are a bunch of retards in my opinion and before they say anything, they should do their research.
Overall, they should do what they do best in the beginning. The last thing they want is being flamed on something where it’s not related to what they do.
Over the years, I’ve started laughing at this stuff more than crying at it…assuming, of course, that their threats never lead no anything. Like you said, all of their claims are pretty much idiotic in the truest sense of the word; let’s just hope that they don’t actually succeed in what they’re trying to do.
Why they ban anime and not the porn movies? This is just so plain stupid i guess…
Do you have the source for this news ?
good post, I don’t agree with their method as well with blaming anime for such thing. I guess they never really watch anime (or just watching those hentais..).
I hope things will settle down a bit, I still want to see new lucky star, manabi straight, and ichigo mashimaro
@ ron~ - There’s a new Manabi Straight?
Yeah, this whole thing is really stupid. Of course, I’m pretty much against the banning of fictional works, period.
IMO, if they want to end child exploitation, they should be raising awareness of dvds such as the one Danny posted awhile back. (If you missed it, search “lolicon” and click on the first result. Just as a warning, it’s pretty disturbing.) It really irks me how material like that flies under the radar, when in that case a real child is involved.
Nice article Rin.
Yeah unicef are bunch of retards…
well… anime can also be related to real-life happenings, etc.
In fact, here in the philippines, I’ve seen kids wearing swimsuit already.
yeah…
It’s not a porn so there’s nothing wrong with it… their brains had huge defect. that’s it.
Yeah I read this on Danny’s page, seriously does anyone still listens to these retarded folks?! Comparing anime swimsuit girls to child porn is almost like comparing ancient greek statues and Michael Angelo sculptions to pornography (yes M.A sculpts and Greek ones not to mention renaissance paintings have more nudity than anime). These are people who have nothing better to do than doing all of these crazy things.
Lolicon mangas are not prohibited in Japan, why…well as long as no child is used/based to make the manga there’s no problem at all because it’s considered erotic and art (if it’s not porn)
Can`t really say much here, whatever floats their boat I guess. Of course, are they honestly assuming that anime is for all age groups? If so take off the age restriction system for movies and lets see who gets flamed more.
M12: I meant if they somehow ull through with this ban (which will never happen), they might move on to how people should dress or wear…
Optic: I barely rant at all…well not on the blog…I’m just not a ranting like person…
Eternal: Well, people seem to blame the anime on anything…but calms down after a week or soo!!!
Sonic_Ver2: I know…it’s just stupid!!!
Saku: Well, I browse around many sites, most of them had the news including Dannychoo. Well, I cna’t remember them all but a few…
Ron~: I want to see a new Lucky Star too!!!
Coco The Bean: Yea, they should do that instead of talking about anime and how bad it is…
Samejima: Well Unicef are all asses… They think picking on an industry that makes a lot of money is a good thing…
Belela-San: It’s basically a freedom of speech…manga and anime in general…
GNdynames: Well, there is an age on movies for a reason..aka…bloody killing scenes and naked scenes…
Religious retardation at its best. The world’s common sensical people should really put an end to religious groups once and for all. I had enough of these fairy-tale-touting rejects telling people how to live by their ways…now that they try to put their cross-sucking ways on to anime….this means WAR!
