Figure: Scale 1/8 Pre-Painted Mikoto Misaka

Well, if you have been watching the new fall season anime called To Aru Majutsu No Index, you’ll know who this character is. For people who doesn’t know who she is I’ll tell you. She is Mikoto Misaka and she is one of the characters in the anime and the main character in the light novels. I recieved this figure last week and never really got around doing a figure photo shoot. It’s a great figure I must say and it’s now moved up as one of my favorite Kotobukiya figure. Well, this gets me thinking on making my favorite figure section to my about page and reminds me to update it too. Well anyways, on to the shoot!!!

I like this view, she looks like she’s going to kill someone when going to school… (Meaning: Don’t mess with her!!!)

Her uniform is just wow!!! It’s been done pretty well!!!

The base for this figure is just amazing overall. I think this was the main reason I bought this figure!!!

The bag with a little frog…

Well, this shoot, more and more problems seem to arise every time I do a shoot. One day it’s too dark, the other day it’s too light. I need to find a good way to do shoots better. I think I need to figure out or set up a permanent place to do figure photo shoot instead the floor. Yes, I do them on the floor and kills my neck when doing this too. I’ll figure it out tomorrow when I get back from class. I hopefully will get this sort it out real soon!!!

This awesome Misaka figure is done by Kotobukiya. I was surprised by the level of detail on this figure judging from past Koto figure I’ve done and stuff. The detail on this figure is just done to a whole new level in Koto standards. Hideaki Kiyohara did a stunning job on this figure. I’ll be expecting good figures from him in the future. Anyways, the good points on this figure are the details of the uniform and the overall pose of it. The paint was nicely done and the expression of Misaka’s face is just great (Those eyes looks like she enjoys hurting people). The best is just beautiful, compared to previous Koto base that are just round plastic clear circles. I would like to add that the left arm is changeable. Just be careful when doing that. With any Koto figure, there are some problems. Not major but some small problems. This figure comes with 2 hair clips but they are so small that it’s hard to change them or even put one in. I didn’t bother removing it and putting in another one. The bag is pretty bland. Just black and gray and just done with a quick paint job. Well, that’s it. Nothing else to rant about this Koto figure. I give it an “A” and it’s a must get. One of Koto’s best figures!!!

Well, I got this figure on preorder off Hobby Search. It was the first time I ordered stuff from that site and I’m pretty happy about it. It came sooner then I expected and out of the blue. I have more pre orders left on that site and a few more on other sites. Anyways, I was surprised this was a Koto figure when I was looking around. The base was stunning and I just had to buy it. I couldn’t resist not getting. I just must have it and just keep preordered and waited. It arrives and it looks amazing. The Misaka figure is now one of my top favorite figures on my favorite figure list.

i do my shots on a little setup i made. I grabbed a few boxes i had from when some larger figure purchases were shipping and sut them up with a wooden plank on top. that’s my base and then i got a tripod and do it from there. It’s still far too short and i want to see if my mom will let me steal a desk from her classroom on of these days. (she’s a 6th grade teacher and they are always changing out desks and if i can get one even it it’s kinda broken it the top is fine and ti doesn’t wobble that’s all i need. I think your problem may be lighting, i don’t know really and i can’t say what to do since my lighting i terrible sometimes too :( But for me so far it’s been trial and error and what works on some backgrounds doesn’t work on others. So just keep at it, i can say i’ve seen an obvious improvement on time on your shots.

Is that an elemental attack she is about to do?
I haven’t started on the series yet. ^^
A very neat Koto figure. I like base. Very detailed indeed.
As DQ suggested, the problem is the lighting. I somewhat find, it’s too bright at times. I usually prefer natural light in my case.

Is there a typo on the price? 51500 yen is about 515 USD. That’s quite expensive…

LOL I love how I just voted for you to take pictures of Shana not realizing that the mystery figure you were talking about was Mikoto. But I’m glad you picked Mikoto. When pre-orders went up for her I had no idea who she was…but I was drawn to something about her and couldn’t get her out of my mind. I think I finally pre-ordered her a couple weeks ago. Now that the anime is coming out I’m absolutely PSYCHED I went after her! I’m really excited for Kotobukiya’s figure of Kaori (from the same series) too! She looks like she will be amazing too!

Also I take pictures on the floor too and am very dependent on natural lighting. I’ve tried artificial lighting with all the desk lamps in the house but it just looked awful…so now I wait for the weather to be just right.

I don’t own any figures from Kotobukiya -yet- but I always thought Kotobukiya figures had pretty nice details? (Judging from photos)

Very nice photos although I think the lighting is a bit off. I shouldn’t really be saying anything though.

@ Darkdam: I’m guessing it’s a typo with an extra digit lol

Anyway, the figure looks nice, especially as I’ve been taking a liking to the series. Also, I love unique bases ;P

Nice! I like your mystery figure, I didn’t even know there was a figure of her out yet. It does look great. Hopefully we see more of her in the anime, and yay for HobbySearch! I think she’ll be going on my wish list now.

Dancing Queen: I might make a place for all my shoots instead on the floor. That’s after I clean my desk which holds my stack of figures…

Optic: Sometimes natural lighting isn’t enough… I found out that mine wasn’t enough and ends up super dark…

Darkdam: Yes yes, I corrected it. Thanks for telling me…

Lovelyduckie: Read the latest post first before commenting if your new to the site. It’ll help you understand what’s going on.
Take pictures on the floor for me…it kills my neck…

Kel: Well, compared to other figure companies out there, Koto quality is a bit lower then the others but sells for a cheap price!!!

Gordon: It’s not small. I like small bases cause it can fit into my shelf and doesn’t take so much room…

Eternal: Fans of the series like you and me, must have!!!

Persocom: It should be on everyones wish list.

Coco The Bean: LOL…I go to sites and saw it…I only realized it was Koto when I got it…

    Ron~: I’ll try that…I hope it works…
