Figure Photo Shoot: Naoe Kanetsugu

01 (Copy)

It’s been a long time since I did a figure photo shoot and I think it’s about time I did a new one. Also I have a backlog of figure photos I just had to put up as well!!! Today’s figure photo shoot is all about Naoe Kanetsugu from the light novel/ anime Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls (Samurai Girls). This Naoe figure is her normal clothes version made by one of my favorite figure companies Alter.

Review of Naoe Kanetsugu:

Naoe Kanetsugu is from the popular Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls which was made by figure company Alter. Being that Alter made this, there is no doubt that the quality in the detailing in exquisite. Pretty much everything I find with this figure is almost perfect! From the details of her hair (and ribbons) to the details of her clothes, everything is perfect. The overall look (the pose, colors and design) of the figure is also truly stunning. It’s one of the few figures I own that I truly love and has become a quick favorite. What I find that was really nicely done was Naoe’s weapon, the giant sledgehammer! The designs of the hammer is an exact match to the one in the show and is just amazingly detailed. For Alter standards, this is a pretty nicely detailed weapon even though the main focus of the figure is Naoe herself. I believe the main focus point for this figure to me was the overall pose of the figure and that smile she has. It’s a simple smile but it just appealed to me and simple is always better than complex! This is before when I noticed the details on the hammer after I got this figure. The overall pose matches who Naoe is, a cheerful but yet someone you shouldn’t look down on. What you don’t see often on figures are small little details. In Naoe’s case, the small details on her stockings and the details on her belt (more like rope with a sake bottle). It maybe small but it seems that Alter actually put effort towards making this figure as perfect as possible. I have to say, Alter achieved that goal very nicely.

Being I said the word “Perfect” a few times during this review, there are just a few minor things that bug me about this figure. With such an awesome figure, why does this figure have a plain white base with the title of the anime on it. It could be slightly more detailed then just plain white. Another slight issue is the chain at the end of the hammer. I feel it should be a bit longer or be somehow attached to the base in some way. I’m just afraid it might break off if something bad happens to the figure.

My overall score for Naoe Kanetsugu is a 9/10, an amazing figure. Alter impressed me a lot with this figure and I can’t wait to see what they have next! I recommend this Alter Naoe figure for any collector who can get their hands on her!!! She is currently sold out on sites like Hobby Search. If you are able to find her, then try your best to get her!!!

Other Thoughts:

It’s been a while since I did a figure photo shoot. I feel I should at least do more of these more often since I have a ton of them just sitting in their boxes/ shelves just waiting for me to take pics of them. I think I should at least do one once a week starting now due to the fact I haven’t done many since last year. While on the subject of posting, I realized I haven’t been posting as much as I wanted to. The main reason is that exams are coming up and I’ve been really busy trying to finish end of the year projects. I’ll try my best to update as much as I can. I know for a fact next week, there will be a flood of posting from me due to the fact I’ll be heading to PAX East (Penny Arcade Expo) in Boston. If I have any readers that live in Boston and would like to meet up, drop me an email. I’ll be in Boston between the dates of April 5th to April 9th. I do plan on updating more this week, so stay tuned!!!

I have to say, this photo shoot turned out very well. I felt I did pretty well for this shoot and the pictures in the post proves it. That said, I think I took way too many photos for this shoot. Each photo is just slightly different and it’s sometimes hard to tell which photo looks the same. After taking photos of Naoe, I ended up with around 200 photos of one figure. With a bit of time, I narrowed it down to 100 photos. It was a hard choice as the photos for this shoot were actually really good. In the end I was able to narrow it down and the photos you see here are the photos I’ve choose out of the bunch.

It makes me wonder, if this hammer was real, how much would it weigh?
