Finally finished organizing my loot from this years trip to Japan. Took a long time to organize and take pictures. Around 9 to 10 hours to organize and take photos as it was pretty messy and everything was all over the place. I do admit I did buy a lot this year but not as much as last year. My budget isn’t as big as last year as well due to me moving and I have to pay part of the house as well. Still, I did buy quite a bit but most of my shopping came from Comiket where I spent the most money during those long 3 days!!! Well everyone, here’s my Japan Loot 2010 report!!! Enjoy!!!

Figures:

I do admit it’s not as much as last year but it’s still a good amount of figures I came home with. Most of these figures were pretty much last minute figures I bought in Tokyo. Mainly what I saw is what I bought. There are still a ton of figures I really want but I just couldn’t get them all. At least I got the 2 Alter figures that I’ve been wanting for a long time and I missed out on the pre-orders of them. I finally have the current figures of the Nanoha series by Alter that is out now thanks to the trip to Japan. At least I got some figures to do a photo shoot with. This reminds me that I have to go out to get a new tripod and finish making my new setup for my figure photo shoots…

The anime section I feel is a bit lacking but I was lucky enough to be in Japan the same time as the release of the No Thank You! single of K-On!! I bought quite a lot of doujinshi this year. Most of them came mainly from Comiket but did buy some at Melonbooks and other stores in Akihabara. All together, they were pretty damn heavy too. I think I lugged around at least half of them at Comiket. They weren’t light at all I say!!! I also have extra copies of some doujins I plan to sell later. I’ll post something up on the blog later about selling stuff. Also not doing an individual price count due to the fact that I forgot how much some of them did cost. I still remember the total thanks to my handy note book I had with me during my trip. When in Japan, I usually aim for the circles I want and when I got them all, I aim for the series. The circles I usually go for are C-Clays, LightRight, Huke, Vocaloid Visual Works, Red Juice, T2, Plum, Sway Wind and Midnight Dessert. After I got all those doujins or their newest issue, I aim for series that I like or current popular series. All depends what I see at Comiket.

Yes, I have 3 Red juice doujins, 2 Huke’s new doujin and 2 Vocaloid Visual Works doujins. I might sell one of the Red Juice ones soon.

I bought quite a few magazines and books during this trip. My favorite magazine I have to say the Megumi one due to the fact that it came with the BRS OVA. My favorite book I bought would be a tie between my Keep the Beats Band Score (Finally can learn how to play My Soul Your Beats! on my guitar) and the big pink Girls Dead Monster Book. All of these books together weigh a ton and were pretty heavy in the end.

I say the star of my loot!!! I know for a fact this is really hard to get and I paid a lot for it too!!! It’s around 6feet tall. As tall as my C-Clays wallscrolls. The main problem is, where to hang this one up…

Speaking of C-Clays wallscrolls. I bought 3 of those wallscrolls. Bought the Remillia Scarlet one at Comiket 78. Also got a wallscroll from the special Key event at Gamers when I was in Tokyo.

When going to Comiket, you come home with bags from doujin circles or from the corporate booths as they give it out when you buy something or a set. I actually bought 2 games this year. I couldn’t find my Project Diva 2 box (still can’t find it) when I was taking photos. What makes this copy of Touhou 12.8 special is that Touhou Project’s creator ZUN was handing out Touhou 12.8 games at Comiket. Something that I didn’t expect at all!!!

My Rebel T1i died on my on the trip when I was in Hong Kong (Actually, it’s been acting up for a long time, but during the trip, it gave up and won’t take photos anymore). Lucky for me, I had a good amount of money going into this trip, so I went out and bought a new one in Mong Kok as I really need one. Pretty much my main camera is my DSLR and with my T1i dead, I couldn’t do anything about it. So I went out and looked at many stores to get a new one. I’ve been eying the Canon 7D for quite some time. 2 days before I left for Tokyo, I got myself the Canon 7D. It wasn’t cheap but it was cheaper then back home by a lot. A lot meaning half of the total cost. It hurt the budget a bit but I needed this for the rest of the trip, so I had to get a new one. Once I bought my new 7D, I’ve been using my 7D ever since. I have to say, my cosplay photos at Comiket turning out great!!! Now I just need to improve on my camera skills a lot more.

Iphone Cases:

Couldn’t help but get one for my Iphone. My old one was cracking and I couldn’t help but get something I like. Originally, I wanted a Youmu one but they sold out of it. So I decided to get Aya Iphone case instead. It’s an awesome case as I’m currently using it right now.

Random Stuff:

A lot of random stuff I either got free or it came with something I bought.

Got official Black Rock Shooter cellphone straps!!! These were hard to find and for a good price. I checked a couple of places and found it in those rental box places in Radio Kaikan in Akihabara for 3000yen for both. Mandarake sold them for a good 8000yen for both.

I did start Weiss Schwarz thanks to RoboStrike and my curiosity about these anime card playing games. Still, it’s a great set!!!

The Guitar:

When visiting Ochanomizu during my trip to Japan, I couldn’t help but to get myself a guitar since my friend was getting one too. I got the Fender 69 Mustang Red. It’s the exact some color and model as Azusa’s guitar in K-On!!. My guitar I have is a 65 Mustang. This 69 Mustang is a lot lighter and looks more like Azusa’s guitar from K-On!! Good thing it came home safe!!!

Well, that’s my loot from this years Japan trip. As you can see I didn’t spend as much as last year but I still spent quite a lot in Japan this year. Went over the original budget by 70000yen. I still regret not getting some stuff but I came home pretty satisfied on what I got this year. I thought originally I would have a loot that is a lot smaller. I came home with a pretty big loot this year. I had around a good 12 boxes coming home which is not that bad, not as much as last year but still pretty good!!! All that’s left is to clean up my room and hang up my new posters and wallscrolls as well!!! Also have to put in the new figures into my shelves.

Shipping wasn’t as bad as last year. Less then half I say cost wise. I had a lot of heavy boxes due to my doujins I bought!!! Shipping still cost me a good 140000yen which is a lot of money considering it was 12 boxes. I always go by EMS due to the fact that they are the fastest and will be at my house pretty soon.

This isn’t my biggest loot I’ve ever got but it’s up there. I do say this loot has the most variety, being that there’s anime, manga, doujins, Jrock, Jpop, a Guitar and so on. I tried on this trip not to spend a ton due to the fact that I don’t have that kind of budget this year. This trip was kind of a last minute thing but it was worth going again!!! Next year I hope to go there and go out of control and bring a loot bigger than my last years loot!!!

Next year I will be going to Comiket 80 as I promised a couple of my friends!!!

After going through 3gb of photos, I finally finished writing this post about Anime North 2010. I know it’s been over almost 3 week since AN, but a lot of things has come up and I wasn’t able to do any posts. Been way too busy to finish it and other things came up. Anyways, as seen before on my blog, Anime North is the biggest anime convention in Toronto and I am a regular visitor to AN. This year was a bit different though. I was part of the press meaning I do coverage of the event. Also thanks to Len Vesper for coming again this year, it was great having you back for AN this year.

Day 1:

Day starts off early as I had to get some last minute supplies. After I arrived back at the hotel, there were already a ton of people in their cosplays. Day 1, I didn’t cosplay at all cause I was a bit lazy and my friend didn’t go as Gackupo so I didn’t cosplay that day. I just wore an anime t-shirt and walked around taking photos…

Inside the Toronto Congress Center…this is where the dealers room is and the artist alley also known as Comic Market… Anime North is actually split into 3 different parts. Most people that goes to Anime North hang around Toronto Congress Center. The other parts of the convention is at the Double Tree Hotel (which holds the panels and masquerade) which is across of the street from the TCC and the Sheridan Hotel (where all the video gaming related stuff are) which is across the bridge to the west of the Double Tree Hotel.

Day 1 comes to an end and I can’t believe some of my friends got wasted on the first day. Yes, we drank and I watched my drinking, but still…not everyone watches their drinking. I forgot to take pics but the people reading this know who they are. Note to self, watch people’s drinking for next years AN.

Day 2:

Day 2 started for me a bit late. It’s due to wearing my cosplay. I need help as there is a back part to my cosplay that I needed help with. Plus, got to get ready for the day. For most of the day I wore my cosplay and trust me, most people didn’t recognize me at all. It took some of my friends a couple of minutes to figure out it was me.

I do admit I don’t like how AN does their name that tune. The main problem that I have with it is how they pick their contestants. They pick names out of a box, but the main problem is that people tend to put more than their names 3 times and they are allowed to do that. I like FanExpo’s style of picking base on knowledge of music by playing a song and the person who gets the song right goes up and compete. Still, it was enjoyable to see a guy with a K-On! shirt answer K-On’s Don’t Say Lazy. The actions he did after he answered the song was pretty entertaining…

The Super Kawaii booth. I acquainted with the photographer Droo (The guy with the hat) and we had a nice chat. For people who doesn’t know Super Kawaii, they make english cosplay magazine geared towards the American market. They have coverage of cosplays that so far from just Toronto conventions, but they are pretty amazing I have to say. They got a booth at AN this year and I went over and took a look. I hope to see them again at FanExpo later this year. They released their first volume this year at AN and hope to release their second volume somewhere in Winter of this year if possible. At AN, they did free photo shoots and these photos could end up in volume 2 of their magazine.

Once again, I forgot to check if my friends were drinking too much and the same thing happened. People went a bit overboard. Friends I never expected to be drunk, got drunk. At that time, I wondered where my Bacardi 151 rum went…and I still wondered where it went…

Overall, day 2 was fun and I was able to get a good amount of photos. I think I got stopped more times for photos then I took photos. God, not doing this cosplay again as I almost died in it. I think I should remind myself, do cosplays that relate to the weather in which the convention is in. Next cosplay, friends want me to go as Shugo Chara…character not decided but I can bet anyone it’s not going to be my choice.

I also met Mr Cup Noodle who apparently knew I was at AN and was able to find me in a crowd of people (I usually find people not people finding me). It was great meeting you and I hope to meet you again at future conventions.

As I side note, I’m almost completely oblivious at conventions and my friends pointed out that at conventions now I’m the guy who cosplays as Len Kagamine of Vocaloid… In some fact it’s true as I always at least do a day of me cosplaying as Len Kagamine at any convention. I made it somewhat of a mission do cosplay as every version as Len there is…minus the really embarrassing ones…

Day 3:

Last day of AN. It usually revolves people packing up and getting ready to leave. We quickly get packed and moved the stuff to our resting area. I have to thank my friends Tubby and Arman for the help with taking some of the pictures for this day as I was busy with some other stuff.

Overall Thoughts

This years AN was good to a point. I enjoyed the convention and still consider it one of the best in Canada. I had a ton of fun, and it was a great 4 days (I was there since Thursday for the pre-party and pre-reg pickup).

The Positives:

AN is still a great convention. There is still many great things to do that it is impossible for one person to go to everything. A big plus note is the schedule. Organized well and there were things that I loved going to. The only positive note for the guests I have is the Japanese DJ they invited. The rave was actually pretty cool. They brought back the flee market in which regular attendees can go sell their used/ new anime goods for cheap prices. I extremely enjoyed that event!!! The dealers room was as big as usual with a ton of great deals and good stuff. The artist alley or AN calls it Comic Market was great. A ton of artworks that I loved and bought. A couple of my friends actually got tables and sold there too. What was a big plus with me was the amount of cosplays. There were a ton of cosplays at AN this year in which I say was pretty good. As you all seen from the photos, I took a ton of pictures of cosplayers and they were great. I have friends (a lot of them too) who were extremely picky and hated almost every cosplayer or cosplays that was at AN cause they aren’t the right height, they looked ugly or didn’t look hot/ cute enough or their cosplay looks just a little off they say “you suck”. I say “your being too harsh cause no cosplay is perfect and the ones who suck are you cause you know you can’t cosplay like them or have the guts to do it”, am I being a bit mean to them, yeah, but I think they deserve it. I know there are cosplayers out there in the world who can do 100 times better then some people here but to me, if your cosplay looks decent or I can tell you put a lot of work into it, in my mind, it’s a good cosplay. People also should take in consideration when making or cosplaying, a budget was set as to make a cosplay, it cost money and a lot of time, cosplays will turn as what they are and a lot of people are proud that they made their cospalys and have a lot of pride in it. I know that as I make props once in a while and as well cosplays when I cosplay. So I know all the work it takes when cosplaying and making the cosplay. Me saying cosplay good only goes so far though…I saw some bad ones and some actually hurts my brain just thinking about it. Not going any further then that, I’ll let you take a guest about it. All the photos I took at AN this year or at every convention, I say it’s good if not great or creative at least. The box walking around AN was creative cause no one did it and it was a good laugh. I think what made AN fun was the people. Friends and new friends alike, it’s what makes AN or any convention for that matter fun. Meeting new people and having fun with them is always great!!! I think at it’s core, a convention is the people that go and interact with other people that shares the same hobby as you. That’s why I feel AN this year was pretty great!!!

The Negatives:

The main problem I had with AN this year is the guests and the amount of bootleg stuff they had in the dealers room and the wrestling. When helping a friend, I had to make sure it wasn’t bootleg as there was a couple of stores that sold them. I just didn’t understand how the AN staff can’t tell between bootleg and real. They need to hire some better people for this type of stuff. I suggest AN should take a look at the dealers items before they are allowed to sell those items to the public. My friends know me and they know I ranted a long time about this, the guests of AN were pretty damn bad this year. A lot of people come to AN to have fun and a lot go for the guests. If any AN staff is reading this, I just want to say don’t bring back the same Japanese guest. If in a group of Japanese guest, then yes you can but not just him. I know for a fact that some conventions if not a lot of conventions considers the amount of attendees a factor if they were successful or not. I know budget is a problem but to increase the amount of attendees, you can get better guests. Earlier AN had good guests such as Kotoko or Haruka Momoi, those are awesome guests. Bring back those type of guests or read the AN forums. People know who they want, the fans who attend the convention. A lot of people who attend every Anime North or the regular congoers were underwhelmed just like me. Bring Japanese voice actors they people do know such as Aya Hirano or Mizuki Nana as they also double as singers. They can perform in concerts at AN too!!! Bring those famous guests and I guarantee that the amount of people that attend AN will increase a lot!!! A lot of conventions can become extremely successful when they have good guests. A good example is FanExpo and Anime Expo or even Sakura Con. They all have increasing attendees each year and the pattern is, they have great guests. English voice actors is fine as there are only a few good known ones. This year, I say must be a record for having the most guests at AN. The thing is, most of these guests I don’t have a clue who they are. They had 3 wrestlers who I don’t care about and they have nothing to do with anime or Japanese animation whatsoever unless it’s Hard Gay. I’ll talk about the wrestling part later. Moving on, if I was incharge of which guests that AN should have, then I would have less guests that are less known and more guests that are more known. Having popular Japanese guests that does either voice acting, music or they were involved in making anime like the art or creators, people will go and line up for them. I also suggest getting better bands to perform and more known Japanese bands too. If I could have a talk with the guy who does the guests for AN, I can say they whatever this person is thinking that he did right at AN, was wrong. Enough of me ranting about the guests, on to the final negative, which is Wrestling. It has nothing to do with anime whatsoever. Minus like if there is a wrestling anime which I think there is one…forgot the name. No offense to wrestling fans (I used to be one before I switched to MMA), wrestling should be nowhere near an anime convention. It has nothing to do with the Japanese animation culture or anime culture for that matter. I also noticed, almost everyone ignored the wrestling ring and matches that happened. There are people sitting and watching is cause they took a break and there were chairs to sit down on. If you take out the wrestling part, it saves some money and use that money for something else that might or will get congoers to go. Other successful anime conventions never had wrestling in their anime convention. They pull in a huge crowd with their concerts and events that is about anime, jrock or something related to the Japanese culture. I know for a fact that wrestling is part of it but I don’t think it’s right for an anime convention. The kendo/ swordmanship class was a great idea and it works. It’s pretty fun too. Something interactive in which attendees can participate in is a great idea. Heck, even having some video gaming stations with demos of unreleased games is a great idea. Having gaming companies go to AN and promote their new games that are coming to home consoles. That will also attract attendees and such. Well, enough ranting from me. Those were my negatives for me. Still, the positives beats the negatives and I was still able to enjoy AN to the fullest I can.

The Loot:

This years loot is underwhelming in my mind or the standard in which people judge me with. Not many things that interested me this year. I was thinking of buying figures but the main problem was that they were way too expensive. Come on, a Figma cost a good $60 to $80, no thanks. Since I heading to Japan again this year (would talk about my trip this year a bit later), I would prefer to buy it there instead since it’s cheaper. Still, I never leave a convention empty handed. Also thanks to my friend Kaze-Hime for the really lovely art of Len and Rin Kagamine. Most of this loot this year consist of doujin related items and fan art from the artist alley (AN named it Comic Market *which is not at all like the real thing in Japan*). This I’m not listing the prices as I forgot what most of these items cost…

Fan Art:

I bought a lot of Fan Art this year. A lot of great fan art and a lot with characters I want. This year’s fan art mainly consist of Vocaloid and K-On!. There are some Touhou, a Hitsugaya print, an Iron Man 2 print and a Durarara!! print too!!! I bought a lot of fan art from famous artists that usually goes to AN and once again, thank you Kaze-Hime for the prints!!!

CDs:

There were some good CDs I saw that I wanted. The CDs are all doujin music CDs. Mostly music of Touhou as well!!!

Manga:

Buying manga at a convention equals deals. I always love to find deals and manga for cheap. AN is known for their cheap manga. I found manga at this table at AN for $5 each. I think the manga I was aiming to get at AN was Lucky Star and Shugo Chara (Yes I follow Shugo Chara and it’s a good anime/ manga). The rest were just random or I bought on impulse cause they were cheap.

DVDs:

I found that DVDs were cheaper last year. This year, not so many and most series on DVD that the dealers had, I had already watched. There were some I didn’t watch but the main problem was that it was either too expensive or sold out when I wanted to buy it later on Sunday. At least I came home with Eureka 7 movie on Blue ray and Samurai 7 anime series. I haven’t watched them yet but I plan to soon.

Doujinshi:

There was a lot of great doujins for sale at Anime North this year. I bought quite a few doujinshi and most of them are pretty much Touhou doujins. I have to thank the people from Twinbell for helping me get the Cirno doujinshi by one of my favorite circles Ham. There were also Touhou doujins that I got were by Flipflops. The K-On! doujinshi is actually in English and is from the artist alley of AN!!! Rare to find English doujinshi made by North American artists!!! Anyways, I walked away from AN happy!!!

Magazines:

I was only able to get one magazine that I actually want. Here it is, Super Kawaii. It’s an English version cosplay magazine aimed towards the North American audience. Most if not all the photos in the magazine are North American cosplayers. They had a booth at AN and they take photos of you for free for use in their next issue. This one I bought is their first issue and they hope to make another. It’s a great concept and idea to have some form of cosplay magazine that isn’t Japanese in the North American market in which cosplayers or the general public can read. I totally support them and I tell all my readers out there to support them too!!!

I know, a lot for even a month. It feels like Japan all over again, which I might go again in the summer to attend Comiket 78. I got most of the loot from Manadrake Japan and others from AmiAmi. The price is alright I say.

I know I’ve been MIA for the past few days. I’ve been working on the new theme and it’s currently giving me a headache. I was meaning to make the first of 2010 with a new theme but in the end I decided to do a loot post as the new theme is far from done at this point. Also been doing a video review of a video game and currently rewriting the script to it. I’ll be posting it on my blog once it’s done. One more thing, I also got Twitter. I decided to hope on the Twitter wagon. I’ve also decided on entering Danny Choo’s Otacool 2’s contest. Well, I’m just entering for fun and I feel that there should be more Canadian cosplays that should be featured in Otacool. Right now as I count, there is only 2 Canadian cosplays that entered. Once my friend and I are finished with our cosplays, we will post it on the blog and as well as DC.

Sorry for taking so long for posting my loot from Japan. It’s so massive that it’s taking forever to take pictures of it and it’s took forever to type out the list. I can’t even fit it all into one photo. It’s impossible, that’s how much stuff I did get and that’s how much loot I got right now. Compared to how much I spent last year, it’s like night and day. This is one long post on all my loot from Japan. So be ready, I do recommend it!!!

The format on how I did in this loot is the same way I do with all my trip and convention loot. All the prices are shown in Yen for this loot. I think that is the main reason it took forever to type this out as it is a massive amount of loot. Trust me, it’s extremely massive.

Figures:

When it comes to getting figures in Japan, I couldn’t help getting a few. Wonderfest there were figures being sold everywhere and in Akihabara, I can always find a deal. During this trip, I was able to find a ton of rare figures to great deals on figures. One of the figures in which I find hard to get is Alter Revy (Black Lagoon). I can find her on Ebay but she cost way too much. I was able to find Alter Revy at Lashinbang in Osaka. I was also able to get some good figures such as the Wonfes released Miku Hatsune Figma, not one, but two of them. I found an old figure such as a Ruri Hoshino figure from an old anime called Nadesico. Some figures Japan is such a great place to buy figures and I sure went all out when it came to figures this trip compared to last years trip.

Okay, I do admit that I went a bit overboard during this trip. Over $2000CAD spent on figures alone, I went a bit overboard. Getting 50 figures is a bit much and I only counted the amount I got when writing this post. Still, I got some good figures and will be doing photo shoots on them real soon. One of my fav figures that I got during this trip is Alter Fate that is pretty hard to get for a good price. In Japan, figures I see for cheap cost so much online. Being able to find Revy figures in Japan was pretty amazing as I thought to myself when heading to Japan I wouldn’t be able to find a Revy figure but this trip, got 2 Revy figures and I found one fo the rarest figures around. Some hard finds cost a bit but worth the money. Now, time to figure out where to put them…

Model Kits:

Going to Japan, I can’t help but get some Gundam models. Some of the model kits I barely fit into the box that I used for shipping. I consider only buying a bit but I never expected that I will go crazy. I even bought Tokyo Green Gundam Model. I don’t think I’ll be building that anytime soon or any of the model kits as soon as I finish the ones I have in my room already. Now adding these kits, I have 14 model kits that I have to build. Great…

I got some good kits during this trip. One model kit that I wanted for a long time that I finally got was the MG Sazabi as since I was a kid. Now, I finally have it. Buying model kits in Japan is a lot better buying it here in Canada. As model kits here are sold for double the price or even triple the price. I’m pretty happy that I got some kits during this trip to Japan.

DVD:

When I went to Japan, I wasn’t planning on getting any DVDs, then I saw the price. When walking around in Japan, I found that most of the DVDs were pretty expensive. I only bought DVDs that were pretty cheap. I do say Lashinbang is one of the cheapest place to get DVDs and is where I got all of mine except the K-On Bluray.

I got some nice DVDs durring this trip. Most were pretty cheap considering how much DVDs cost in Japan. I would had bough the entire set of Lucky Star if it wasn’t that expensive.  I bought the H2O DVD set cause I saw it for cheap. To me, it was a good deal and I do love the anime. Also was able to find a DVD of Mizuki Nana live concert. As some of you know, I am a Mizuki Nana fan and I couldn’t help but buy it. I believe this was the newest one out and I bought it for a good price. During my trip to Osaka, I bought the first volume of the K-on Blu-ray. I just bought it on random impulse. I had a lot of those throughout the trip.

I sure went overboard kind of on CDs. I somewhat had gotten into the Touhou music a while ago. I don’t listen to them a lot though compared to other music. Still, I bought quite a few of them and some I like and some I just bought cause the cover either looked nice or has a nice picture of my favorite characters from Touhou. Some of the Touhou CDs I bought at Melonbooks or over at Comiket when all the music circles appear on Touhou day of Comiket. When in Japan, I reminded myself that I needed to get myself a Mizuki Nana CD and an Uverworld CD as I’m a big fan. Sure enough, got both newly released CDs and they are both limited editions. I got the Girl Next Door CD as I was hooked on the theme song to the game Tales of Vs. It’s so cool. K-On CDs was a must on list to get in Japan. I bought all the CDs that was released at the time when I was in Japan. When I saw a Lucky Star character song pack, I just bought it without thinking. Also bought the Comiket special edition Nanoha Side and Fate Side CDs released at Comiket. I latter saw them in stores for double to triple the original price. I’m glad that I lined up in that insane line of Nanoha. Totally worth it. As a Vocaloid fan, I bought the Vocaloid CDs Supercell and the Project Diva Soundtrack as I was playing the Project Diva for the first half of the trip before switching to Tales of Vs. All the CDs were worth the money I spent. Time to listen to some.

Dakimakura:

Got quite a few dakimakura during this trip. By far dakimakura’s are one of the most expensive items I bought on this trip. They are pretty expensive and usually they run for around 9000yen or above. I would love to by some of them or most of them but the price for one is just too much even for me.

I got quite a bit of dakimakuras during this trip. One of I didn’t even need to pay for it at all. I used points saved up in my Melonbooks point card. You get points everytime you buy something and a point card holds the points. Then exchange points for goods. In my case, I saved 4000points (which is a lot) and got myself a free dakimakura. I love how the point cards work in Japan. Anyways, I was also able to get pre released stuff at Comiket. I got myself the pre released Saki and Code Geass Dakimakuras. I must thank Aaron and Tim for helping me get these items. Something that I laughted about is the Saki Nodoka dakimakura. Aaron told me that they even put in the words “smooth” on the package. I was also able to get myslef a rare Fate daki but it cost me a good 20000yen for it and that hurt my wallet. I also found something I thought I never would find, an official Lucky Star daki. They sold it only at the Kyoto Animation store in Kyoto. I was able to go to the store and buy the dakimakura. I know a bedsheet isn’t classified as a daki, but it’s somewhat like it. Still, it was a good great at the Nanoha booth. Now the hard part. I have one pillow and 7 dakimakura…which one to use…

Manga:

If you go to Japan and not get any manga, check you brain, something must be wrong. I bought quite a bit of manga for this trip and bought some manga that I need to finish some series I have. Also I can’t read Japanese, so why did I buy it. I will learn some Japanese soon, so this will be soon some great reading material. For now…I look at the pictures…

I bought quite a bit. I do also know after buying the Lucky Star manga that there was such thing as a Gamer edition of the manga. I didn’t know that. I just bought it because it was Lucky Star. I also bought a few doujin manga. It’s still manga in a way. What I did get that was on my list unlike most of the manga I bought was the Nightmare of Nunnally manga. I bought volume one of the manga last year and now I finally completed the set. The manga ends at vol 5 I believe. A manga I couldn’t help but get is the To Love Ru manga. One look at the price of the manga, I couldn’t help but get all 15 volumes of the manga. Sadly, right now I just need the last volume to complete the set. I was able to get the petit nendoroid of Yuki Nagato with the bunny headphones. I wanted it since I heard it was out. I got that limited edition set with volume 3 inside for 2000yen and I got vol 1 and 2 for 800yen for both. I also did enjoy the Vocaloid manga and seeing that Kei did one too, I also couldn’t hold myself back. Now it’s time to figure out where to put all these manga.

Games and Game Accessories:

Bought some good games and gaming accessories. I saw my Blazblue joystick is one of the good finds. Now I finally have a joystick for the PS3 that I can use.

Got quite a few games this trip. I was able to get Touhou 12 and I have to say it’s so hard. It’s harder than the other games in the series. I would also add, Zun’s artwork is improving. Well, not going to dwell deep into it. I’ll talk more about Touhou later. I also got the new Touhou 12.3 which is an expansion to Touhou 10.5. It just adds a new interface and new characters with new stages and music. Overall, the same game but fun as hell. I got some official PS2 games too. I was able to get Melty Blood AA First Print Edition hours before I left Japan. I also got a PSP game called Tales of Vs. Being a Tales fan, I love this game and I am still playing it right now. It’s a really fun game once you get a handle of it. One of the biggest things I got was the Blazblue Joystick. I have to say, I need a Joystick nowadays. For some reason, I just can’t play with the controller anymore. I must had gotten used to playing it with a joystick in Japan arcades. Finally, on to the PS2 Trigger Heart. My main reason in buying it is that Nendoroid. It’s just so cute and so cool. I wanted it for a while but couldn’t get it as online sold it for an extremely expensive price and official online stores were sold out of it. So I’m pretty happy I got it in Kyoto when I found it. Some might think why did I get Type A. Well, Akihabara Channel is one of my favorite Japan English blogs besides Danny Choo. I read that he will be attending Comiket and selling his game. So I went and was also able to meet Kouji in person. It was pretty cool. Now, time to put the games into the pile of games I have yet to play.

I love to buy monthly mags. The thing is if I import them they cost a lot here. I rather just buy them there.

I was thinking on getting a wallscroll or two in Japan. I didn’t expect myself getting this much. I was surprised at myself when I got the C-ClayZ Aya Shameimaru wallscroll. The wallscroll alone is bigger than me. It’s rare to see a wallscroll that is taller than you. I love it though, the art on it is amazing!!! Another wallscroll that I love is the Nanoha movie wallscrolls. The movie wallscroll with all the characters is from Comiket and it cost around 3000yen. The Fate wallscroll is also hard to get as well. I found it at Lashinbang in Ikebukuro and bought it without another thought. Now, I just need to figure out how to hang these wallscroll up.

Posters:

I bought quite a few posters. Currently most of the posters I got are all rolled up and I’m unable to put them in the picture. It was hard enough unrolling the Kara No Kyokai posters as they took around a good 30 minutes to unroll and tape on the floor. I’ll just list the posters.

I bought too many posters. It was hard enough to ship them back without having them damaged. I say the Nanoha A’s DVD posters cost quite a bit. Still, worth it as I’m a huge fan of the series. The K-On posters that came from Kyoto Animation in Kyoto are three different kinds. I was lucky to get all 3 of those posters. The plastic K-On posters are pretty nice and I got two of them. I got the movie posters of Kara No Kyokai at the movie theater when I watched the 7th Kara No Kyokai movie. It was pretty worth it but when carrying 6 posters back to the hotel was hell. Now, time to figure out where to put these posters on my wall…

Doujinshi:

When it comes to Japan, buying some doujinshi is a major must. Since I can’t really name all these doujinshi. I can surely say that I got a ton. Also, I don’t remember who ordered a doujinshi by Lily Lily Rose. If you did, please email me so I can send you it.

I bought a ton of doujinshi this year. I think I doubled the amount I bought last year. I bought some popular circle doujins too. I got most of T2’s doujins during my trip and together I think they cost a good 11000yen. I think the only T2 doujin I’m missing so far is the Clannad T2 doujin. I also made it my goal to buy most of Plums doujins. Plum doujinshis mainly focus on the Nanoha series. Also most of their doujins are H but their art is just amazing! Got a few Miku doujinshi as well. I also went for some Touhou doujinshi. One of my fav circles does Touhou doujins too. LightRight does amazing art in their doujins. I love their cover art too. Most of these doujinshi that I got were mostly bought at Comiket or at Melonbooks. Comiket I consider is a cheap place to get doujins but the problem is that they don’t accept credit cards, cash only. Melonbooks I consider a great place to buy doujinshi as I buy quite a few doujins and has a ton of doujins always in stock too. Best of all, they accept credit cards. Either way, I love getting doujinshi in Japan compared to getting it here in Canada as it cost a ton.

Comiket Bags:

Comiket always has bags that they give you along with your loot. It all depends which booth you go to or which dealer you go to. Also, it determines if they still have stock of the bags. It seems a lot of people in Japan who goes to Comiket cares about the bag they get with their loot and holds it in a way to protect it from Damage. I got quite a bit in Japan too. I got bags such as C-ClayZ bag, K-On offical bag, Tony Taka circle bag, Type-Moon bag, and many more. I got tons and carrying them throughout Comiket can get annoying and tiring, but totally worth the trouble. Most of these bags came with the loot I buy at Comiket and others some people give out to the crowd for free. I also like the doujin circle bags such as LightRight (The pink bag with Yuyuko on it at the top of the picture) as it was made differently. It was a fabric made bag. I just love Comiket bags!!!

I got the GoodSmile Mascot in a store in Akihabara. A friend pointed out and when I saw it, i quickly bought it without thinking. It was the GSC mascot and when I saw a friend of my Len-Vesper has it, I couldn’t help but get my own. Also got some plushie at Comiket. At Comiket, GSC released the Vocaloid plushie and touhou plushie. I have to thank Aaron and Tim for helping me getting the plushies at Comiket. Last year at Comiket, I got myself a Konata plushie but didn’t get a Kagami one as they sold out of her. This year, i was able to get her in Kyoto Animate. It was a good find and now I got the set.

Got some hard to find stuff in Japan. Something I never thought I find is the Cardcaptor Sakura cell art. I bought it without another thought as CCS holds a special place in my heart as it was the first anime that got me into anime. The Lucky Star portrait was found in Tokyo. I bought it was it was signed and it was Lucky Star. Most of the rare buys or all the rare buys are all just impulse buys I say.

Random Things and Comiket Goodies:

In Japan, you can get random things. People hand you things to you buying random things. I bought and got quite a few random things. The random Comiket stuff were Nanoha Tshirts, to Touhou towel to the MIO BOWEL.

I spent a lot on random things. Comiket is mostly where I bought it. I got the Mio bowel at Comiket with a K-On set that came with K-On chopsticks, spoon and forks and Yui’s little clapping instrutment thing. I even got somewhat festival like clothes. I got Lucky Star Konata (in a wedding dress) festival clothes and K-On Ritsu as well. I would had gotten more but I decided not to as they cost around 8000yen each. The Blazblue loot consists of towels, fan and art book. I do like the towels though. Other loot like the Hidamari Sketch loot has a small book with a Tshirt and a cup. I also got Itashi car stickers. Comiket sold a lot but cost a lot. I only got 2, one that says Vocaloid System and the other having Remilia Scarlet from Touhou on it. I got these Wooden Plates that has these anime characters on it. Got around 20 of them lying around and I don’t know what they mean. If some does know, please tell me. When in Japan, people tend to hand out things. I got a ton of free fans just walking down Akihabara and a lot of people just give me these ads about some new game or anime coming out or even a sale. Some random things are promotional items that poeple give me. A cool random thing I bought was Touhou drinks. I did not drink them yet. As I’m scarred of openning it. I might open it someday but not at the moment. Time to figure out where to put all these random goodies!!!

I got the entire set of K-on promo cards. You can get one when you buy K-On goods at Gamers and Animate. You get one card for every 1000yen you send on K-On goods except for DVDs and CDs. I was albe to obtain the entire set  of K-On stuff. I also got telephone cards. These telephone cards came with things I by. The Code Geass ones came with my Code Geass dakimakura that I bought at Comiket. Point cards are one of the hardest things to get in Japan. To get a point card, you need an address in Japan, which as a tourist, you don’t have one. Thanks to Tim, I was able to get an Animate Point Card, a Melonbook Point Card, K-Book Point Card and a Gamers Point Card. Point cards are useful getting free stuff to saving money. I used my Melonbook point card a lot and was able to save up 4000points to get myself a dakimakura from Melonbooks. Having a point card is also pretty useful and makes a great souvenir. I got a deck of a card game called Weib Schwarz. My friend told me to play it with him but the thing is, I have no clue how to play it. My friend who has a limited knowledge of Japanese struggles to read the instructions but somehow we played a bit of it. I still don’t understand how to exactly play it.

Dollfie:

My most expensive item I got in Japan. I got myself a Yuki Nagato dollfie. A lot of people took a while to convince me to get one. Also I find compared to what my friends have, Yuki looks a lot better.

I don’t really know how my friends convince me into buying this dollfie. I just got it. Oh well, I like her though. I would had got Fate dollfie as well but the price kinda turned me away and having 2 dollfie is a bit a much. I’m satisfied having Yuki. I don’t think many people have a Yuki dollfie. Now I gotta find a stand for her and a chair for her too.

I spent a lot for this trip to Japan this year. I did spend almost 900000yen during this trip to Japan. You can say I went a bit overboard for this trip, but I have no clue when would I ever go back to Japan. So I do say, spend now or never.

Shipping hurts me. I spent a good 350000yen on shipping in Japan. Shipping 28 boxes home is expensive and I used EMS as it’s the fastest and safest way to ship. I know 28 boxes is a lot of boxes but I needed it as I don’t want a box costing me over 50000yen and being heavy as boxes do break if the content inside it is too heavy. So I separate them into many boxes.

I consider this loot is my largest loot to date. I mean, it’s massive. I don’t think I ever in my life spent that much in a month. Well, it was a trip and I kind of went out of control when it came to shopping in Japan. Now, with so much loot comes the total room reorganization. I have to clean my room as it is currently a mess…a giant mess. I hope I can fit everything in my room…

Sorry it too so long everyone. Listing all my loot too longer then expected. Well, finally I get to the loot post from my really recent trip to Japan. Well, I spent around $3000 in Canadian. Right now, all my loot can’t even fit in one photo. I have too much loot for one picture. Looks like I have to do a seperate photos for all my loot. There was a lot of figures to choose from in Japan. There are still a few of them I really want but didn’t get them. I really regret not getting them. This is a huge amount of money. I planned to use more on figures but I used a lot of money on other things and stuff like that. Also I had a limit on my debit card as well which sucks a lot. Well, one of my favorite finds was the Code Geass figures. In Canada, it is extremely hard to find even one Code Geass figures. Figma’s are completely different. They are extremely easy to find. In Japan, you see it a lot in many places. Other great find was Nakoruru. I’m a huge fan of this character from Samurai Spirits. It’s hard to find a figure of here and when I find it, it’s really expensive. My other figures I was able to acquire all came in really cheap prices to me because figures in Canada is expensive. I would love to thank Adun from Moe Moe Rabu for helping me get the WonderFest Yuki Nagato.

Manga:

If I go to Japan, I must get some manga. Manga in Japan have no tax and is the price of the manga is on the back of the book. Some I was surprised they have a manga series of.

Going to Japan, there was only one game in my mind which was released on Comiket. I was able to aquire more then just one game. Xbox games since they don’t work here. I would like to but I wouldn’t buy a game that won’t work here. Still, I was able to get some games that I liked.There are a lot of games in Japan. Still, I have to get games that would actually work here in Canada as well. I couldn’t get any

I was thinking of buying a Gundam model. The problem is, the ones I wanted, the box of the model is way too big to ship back. I wanted to buy one because it was cheap. Sadly, the box is way too big to fit into the shipping box. So I bought the next best thing I wanted for a long time. Code Geass Model kits.

Well, I considered all the CDs in Japan are great prices compared to here. I see the Final Fantaqsy 7 Soundtrack, I must buy it. When I saw Xenosaga (my most favorite game of all time) soundtrack, I took it so fast and ran to the cashier. Some of my personal favorite CDs I got was the limited edition Comiket 74 Higurashi and TO Heart 2 CDs. Some CDs you see in my loot at fan made CDs sold in stores such as Animate. I do like Vocaloid and I got it. Well, as a Lucky Star fanboy, I must get the Lucky Star CD. I was planning to buy all the CDs but I was unable to because of the amount of money I had the time and other things on my list I have to get first before I get it. Still, I got a good amount of Lucky Star CDs. I just love my Lucky Star CDs!!!!!!

DVD:

I was only able to get one DVD. I also got it at Comiket. This DVD was a random impluse buy. The reason is because it was signed by the creator and it is a limited edition box set. I have no clue what this is called too. If anyone have the name. Please, someone tell me.

For example, Dengeki G’s Festival magazine is almost impossible to get at regular price. I always see it over $50 online. So I rather buy it in Japan. Also, I bought anything related to Nanoha series and Lucky Star. I bought some old issues because Lucky Star is in it. The same with Nanoha. Well, I bought quite a bunch of them.

Well, the Comiket catalog is extremely useful for finding the right doujin circle. On day three which I call H day. This is when it is extremely crowded. I mean, it’s really crowded. The doujinshi area is crowded with otakus buying adult doujinshi. It was fill with thousands of otaku walking… The other book/ light novel is called Dream Shell, It’s a light novel of Fate and Nanoha. Also I would like to say it’s also a fan made one. The cover art alone made me buy it… Too Kawaii!!!!!!!

Doujinshi:

Going to Japan and not going to buy doujinshi. I will be saying, are you crazy!!!!! Doujinshi is something otakus over here in Canada and the US want. Fan made comics are just so cool. The closest thing to a doujinshi here in Toronto is Kaze-Hime’s doujinshi. Luckily, they’re in english. Well, in Japan there are over hundreds of them for cheap. If I buy it online, the price for one is just so much compared to prices in Japan. It cost around $20 and above here compared to the $1 to $15 price on doujinshi in Japan. Man, I wish to have cheap doujinshi and then my trip came. I bought some doujinshi there. Well, most doujinshi there contains H materials. There are some doujinshi that contains yaoi, yuri, and some are noraml pairings and stuff. Well, I basically bought what I like.

Well, Most of the doujinshi titles are in Japanese so I can’t translate what they say. So that’s way thr doujinshi section isn’t as detailed as the other sections. Still, I was able to get a few good doujinshi. As you can see from the picture above. That’s basically what I bought. I think it’s a pretty good amount of doujinshi I have from Japan. Well, 12 of the doujinshi I got are Vocaloid.I like Vocaloid and this is what I consider pretty cool!!! Nanoha and Lucky Star doujinshis are pretty cool to find at Comiket too. Most of my doujinshi came from Comiket. They are pretty cheap, so I consider it a better deal then the ones sold in Canada.

Food:

Yes, I brought back food from japan. Well, they’re basically cookies. I got Lucky Star cookies. I couldn’t help it, I just love Lucky Star.

The T-shirts, well, I didn’t buy much of them because of the price for one. Well, still, there were ones I must have. Sadly, there was no Lucky Star ones or Nanoha ones. I wanted a Nanoha one but the thing is that the line for that was way too long. I didn’t fell like waiting for one in the hot heat at Comiket. Still, I was able to get my hands on a few good ones.

Well, I spent at least over $3000 on this trip. Shipping was expensive in Japan. It took around $500 to ship all my goods back. Something I never thought, books can get heavy after buying a few. While buying them, i have to make sure that I don’t go over a certain weight limit. That ended in multiples of boxes. Around 8 boxes were used to shipped all my goods back. Not small boxes, but big ones.

I consider this loot my biggest loot to date. I’m amazed on how much I got on this trip. I wished to get more but I’ll get them later on in life. With it comes with lots of loot comes the problem of space. Right now, I have to figure out where to put all my goods in my room. Half of my loot currently needs to find a place in my room. It looks like it’s time to completely reorganize my room. Which I don’t like pretty much.

Well, all of you might agree, any otaku visiting Japan and goes to places such as Akihabara will go all out and buy all the anime goods they want. That’s what I basically did. I went loose at Comiket too. Well, going to a trip to Japan, you’ll learn one thing. Bring a lot of money. Also bring money for shipping. You’ll need a lot of money to buy your goods and money to stay at a hotel or something. Also for food. Trust me, you’ll need it if any of you plans a trip to Japan!!!
